You are the commander of the last surviving tank on the battlefield. Two of your four-person crew have been incapacitated, so you'll only have control of two of the four functions of the tank at any one time. Please note, commander: Although most tanks' gunners aim and shoot,  we had to separate those functions in this tank, in order to get the best armor or bullets or something. Good luck, and don't let the literally infinite enemies dampen your spirits. We're all counting on you.

Here are your tank's functions and their controls. Note: You MUST have a crew in that slot to enable the control.

Swap Crew Menu:
Hold Space / Shift: Open crew menu. Then, drag-and-drop the faces of the crews to swap seats. The game will slow down while it is open, so don't worry about swapping quickly.

Driver:
WASD / Arrow Keys: Turn left/right, drive forward and backward

Aimer:
Mouse: Aim turret
Right-Click: Lock turret position

Gunner:
Left-Click: shoot

Loader:
R: Reload Autoloader Magazine
(also happens automatically when you run out of ammo)

TIPS:

  • It is way easier to kill enemies with an aimer! Hold W to go forward, then switch to aimer and gunner for better control, the tank will continue to drive.
  • You can switch both crew members at the same time. The cooldown only happens when you exit the menu.
  • There's no win screen or anything, so don't worry about dying.

Project Info:

Submitted for the GMTK Game Jam 2020. The theme is "Out of Control".

All programming and pixel art (except font) were done by me, during this jam.

(Please forgive the debug window. I accidentally left some critical code wrapped in assert() statements...)

Very good game, I hope you will make it to the video :)
But it freezes for some reason when playing in browser.

Thanks!

Hmm. Sorry about that. Which browser are you using?

Firefox

Weird. It works for me, although I realize now that I exported the game as OpenGL ES 3 and I don't really know the difference but apparently I was supposed to do ES 2 for web games. ðŸ˜”

This was actually one of the first concept ideas my team had. We ended up going for another concept, but it's nice seeing someone actually executing that original idea!
I'd say the execution worked out really well, though the Aimer felt a tad too slow. I get why the turning speed is there, but I think it could've gotten a small speed boost. Other than that, the game's pretty fun! Nice entry.

Actually, the Aimer should get a BIG speed boost. Without it, the Driver basically becomes a better version of him.

(1 edit)

Yeah, it definitely needs re-balancing, haha. Originally, the gunner was combined shoot and aim, and I was going to also have a lookout/machine-gunner and a radio operator, but ran out of time... (dang scope creep...)
